Some of you may have noticed that I've decided to try adding Google ads to the blog.
Within a couple of days these should become more relevant to the blog subject matter - Buddhism.
If this starts generating money I think I'll give it to a charitable and/or Buddhist cause.
Let me know what you guys think of it.
Do not go upon what has been acquired by repeated hearing; nor tradition; nor rumor; nor what is in a scripture; nor surmise; nor axiom; nor specious reasoning; nor bias towards one’s beliefs; nor upon another's seeming ability; nor upon the consideration, 'The monk is our teacher.' When you yourselves know: 'These things are good; these things are not blamable; these things are praised by the wise; undertaken and observed, these things lead to benefit and happiness,' enter on and abide in them.
I'm in the process of developing www.chasingsanity.com and I've been debating the use of Google Ads, too; but it doesn't really seem appropriate, I guess. I use them on my other site www.elderguru.com where it seems appropriate.
ReplyDeleteI think you'll be fine, though. I won't stop reading because of Google Ads.
Advertisements are much like clouds here in the US, they are almost everywhere you look, so it doesn't bother most us Yankee's. :-)
ReplyDeleteI usually stop reading a blog when ads appear, primarily because it clutters the appearance of the blog and impedes my reading...I'm easily distracted. :) But it will be interesting to see what Buddhist-oriented ads appear.
ReplyDeleteWell the ads are there and most of them are Buddhist orientated. I think they're fairly low-key. If it puts people off I'll take them down.
ReplyDeleteI think donating the money from the google ads to a Buddhist-related charity (perhaps donating to a sangha in need of building renovations?) is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWell a couple of things spring to mind: there is a fund running to allow the creation of a fall-time Soto Zen retreat centre in the UK.
ReplyDeleteAnd my Rinzai teacher could use a new website. (I can do some of it, but I'd need to pay a developer for the rest).
I use the ads too; I get a kick out of the fact that Google is set up to get McDonald's to bid in an auction to advertise on my blog!
ReplyDeleteYours too.
I banned Scientology from my list of sponsors, & I'd ban others...they may show up in your ads if you don't filter them out.
I'll have to try to figure out how to do that.
ReplyDeleteLOL, gotta love the Scientology ads. :-P
