Google ads

Some of you may have noticed that I've decided to try adding Google ads to the blog.

Within a couple of days these should become more relevant to the blog subject matter - Buddhism.

If this starts generating money I think I'll give it to a charitable and/or Buddhist cause.

Let me know what you guys think of it.

  1. I'm in the process of developing www.chasingsanity.com and I've been debating the use of Google Ads, too; but it doesn't really seem appropriate, I guess. I use them on my other site www.elderguru.com where it seems appropriate.

I think you'll be fine, though. I won't stop reading because of Google Ads.

  2. Advertisements are much like clouds here in the US, they are almost everywhere you look, so it doesn't bother most us Yankee's. :-)

  3. I usually stop reading a blog when ads appear, primarily because it clutters the appearance of the blog and impedes my reading...I'm easily distracted. :) But it will be interesting to see what Buddhist-oriented ads appear.

  4. Well the ads are there and most of them are Buddhist orientated. I think they're fairly low-key. If it puts people off I'll take them down.

  5. I think donating the money from the google ads to a Buddhist-related charity (perhaps donating to a sangha in need of building renovations?) is a great idea.

  6. Well a couple of things spring to mind: there is a fund running to allow the creation of a fall-time Soto Zen retreat centre in the UK.

And my Rinzai teacher could use a new website. (I can do some of it, but I'd need to pay a developer for the rest).

  7. I use the ads too; I get a kick out of the fact that Google is set up to get McDonald's to bid in an auction to advertise on my blog!

    Yours too.

I banned Scientology from my list of sponsors, & I'd ban others...they may show up in your ads if you don't filter them out.

  8. I'll have to try to figure out how to do that.
